My Flower and Vegetable Garden

Remember the way my little garden looked before?
Well I wanted to give you an update....the marigolds are still living
after a month of being planted!

I have a rose bush!

Not really sure what this is....doesn't matter...it's pretty!
So here it is!
I finally planted my tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, and jalapenos today. They should be ready by mid-summer. Exciting!

My garden reminds me of my Dad! Before I planted my first set of tomatoes a couple of years ago, I called my Dad. Of course the fruits of my labor only produced one little cherry tomato....that didn't matter, my Daddy was proud and so was I! What was most important is what he taught me. I learned how to plant vegetables, how to take care of them, and how to be patient. Also, I picture my Dad and I at my Granny's house walking through his garden checking out his peppers, zucchini, pumpkins, okra and peas.
Daddy loved his vegetable garden....I think I have grown to love them as well.

Pottery

1. McCarty's Pottery- Marigold, MS
Simple can be beautiful! I own two pieces of McCarty Pottery and would love to start collecting more.

2. Peter's Pottery- Mound Bayou, MS
Peter's pottery is a family business. I like all of the animals. I have 1 little piece...it's a rabbit. Beautiful! If you want to look at more of their pieces click here.

3. Jerry Brown Pottery-Hamilton, AL
I went to Hamilton with my good buddies, Nicole and Rowdy, to visit where the pottery making takes place. We were able to see Mr. Brown in action. Jerry Brown still uses a mule to power his clay mill! His folk art facejugs are worth the trip to Hamilton! I have one piece (given to me by Nicole and Rowdy!) a coffee mug with a frog inside of it. I hope to have a facejug one day (pass along the hint to the hubs)!4. J.R. Webb- Jackson, MS
Jonni Webb is a graduate from my high school...didn't know that when I discovered her pottery. I love the earthy glazes! I own the earth tone multi pendant and magnet! She has a new item that I NEED to have...its a magnetic vase! Check out the color chart.

I have made 3 pieces of pottery in my short lifetime.....keep in mind that I was a senior in high school...I made an egg, an ashtray, and a fish with scary-sharp teeth. My mom has the egg (being her motherly duty) and my sister has the fish (great conversation piece)...no telling what happened with the ashtray! I think I would like to have a go at it again.

Simple and earthy.

Precious

I noticed that Precious was getting a lot of publicity on all the awards shows and knew I must see it. So I picked up the book! (I try to read the book before I watch the movie) WOW! WHAT A STORY!

Precious is an illiterate, overweight 16 year old. Her parents abuse her emotionally, physically, and sexually. She is about to have her second child by her father, when she is given an opportunity that will change her life. She meets a teacher, Miz Rain, who teaches her how to read, but most importantly teaches her that she has WORTH!

BEWARE of the coarse language and graphic details! I mean GRAPHIC details. Normally I would not want to continue reading such a book, but I was looking for the redemption and I just couldn't stop! Out of the horror and strife something truly beautiful springs forth.

A Few of My Favorite Spring Things:

1. Band of Horses

I am obsessed with this little "indie" band. My sister gave Andrew and me tickets to see them at Memphis in May and I am STOKED!

Some of My Favorite Band of Horses Songs:

1. No One's Gonna Love You
2. The Funeral
3. General Specific
4. Great Salt Lake

Whenever I am driving around with the windows down or messing around in my little garden, I have the Band of Horses in the background. I have both of their albums and like all of the songs....so check them out here!

2. Urban Outfitters
I am in love with Urban Outfitters! I could look around this store for hours....here are a couple things that I like!

Adorable hair bow!

Fun sun dress!

This has nothing to do with Spring but I especially like all the random things you could find for the house.

Like the Saved By The Bell boardgame....

Or a recycled boombox that will hold you iPod.

3. Anthropologie

I have this perfume from Anthropolgie called "Woman in Yellow" by Oiseau.....it is spring in a bottle!

I think I am officially ready for Spring!!
